Oxfordshire environmental groups and local councils cooperate to address the energy price crisis.

All over Oxfordshire people are struggling to pay their energy bills. But so many homes are so poorly insulated that around a quarter of the energy we pay for is simply wasted. Much of that energy still comes from fossil fuels so this is adding needlessly to the climate crisis.

On Wednesday 15 June Low Carbon Hub is taking part in a public event run by Oxford Friends of the Earth; a major public meeting in unique cooperation with the County Council, the City Council, the Oxfordshire Community Action Groups network, and Community First Oxfordshire. 

This event will focus on two key issues: the climate crisis and the rapid rises in energy costs. Leading local and national speakers will set out how we can save energy and money in our homes, and how this links to local work to tackle climate change.

Speakers include:

• Barbara Hammond, CEO, Low Carbon Hub
• Cllr Liz Leffman, Leader, Oxfordshire County Council
• Nick Eyre, Professor of Energy and Climate Policy, University of Oxford – on the challenge of saving energy – now and in the future
• Adam Scorer, CEO, National Energy Action – on fuel poverty and climate action
• Emily Lewis-Edwards, Director, Community First Oxfordshire
• A speaker to be confirmed from Oxford City Council

The audience will be invited to feed in ideas on how we can tackle these problems, both in Oxford and in rural areas across the county.

All over Oxfordshire people are struggling to pay their energy bills. Meeting the UK ‘zero carbon’ target will mean our homes are warmer and our bills are lower. We need more and faster action to cut waste. Oxfordshire can and should take a lead on making the changes we need across the UK
