Transition Chipping Norton
Transition Chipping Norton is part of the international Transition Network that has committed to encourage and help villages, towns and cities around the world to take positive, practical steps to progress towards a sustainable future.
They believe strongly in the power of people working together locally to take action on climate change and formed a town wide Climate and Ecology Action group in response to the registration of a climate emergency. This resulted in
setting up an Eco Buddy scheme for households, streets and workplaces so that people could share responsibility and adopt a co-ordinated approach.
Following a survey of the residents of the whole area they started several carbon reducing initiatives that local people could take part in straight away. These include; a thriving community allotment designed to introduce the principles of permaculture, a Plastics Action group and a Clean Air for Chippy campaign to keep polluting HHV’s away from the narrow town centre streets.
They work closely with another local LCH community group, Hook Norton Low Carbon, by sharing their car club and low or interest free loans for households to install energy efficient measures in the home or workplace.
