Local carbon oxford project (LCOP)

Oxford City Council are working with Low Carbon Hub on a new pilot, Local Carbon Oxford (LCOP), which is looking to support local organisations and groups around Oxford to deliver vital energy efficiency works.

About the project

Through LCOP, we are looking to match organisations who require funding with businesses who are keen to support decarbonisation projects in the city, contributing simultaneously to local prosperity, global climate action, and corporate sustainability and CSR goals. The project provides a matchmaking service between projects and funders, with a rigorous accreditation that provides confidence for all parties that the funded measures will deliver real, local, tangible action on decarbonisation.

What are the benefits?

LCOP provides a way for larger businesses to contribute to local action on carbon emissions, while enabling organisations in need to reduce their emissions and energy demand. The project provides a framework for symbiotic relationships between organisations in Oxford and beyond, strengthening the framework towards a net-zero city. Other benefits of the project include;

· Funders having the opportunity to showcase their environmental values, enhance their reputation as a socially responsible organisation and make a meaningful difference in their local communities while contributing to global climate action.

· Funders being provided an alternative to the transparency and credibility challenges of international carbon markets, opting to support local, robust and tangible carbon projects backed by the local authority.

· Developers unlocking support for projects that are otherwise difficult to fund because of a lack of finance, long payback times or challenging business cases.

· Developers benefitting from warmer, brighter and more efficient working environments that improve health and wellbeing.
